Ants, my favorite

I love ants, said no one ever. Except maybe a few weirdos but we don’t talk about them. When we bought our new home we traded mildew for small sugar ants. I still haven’t decided which is worse, though ants generally don’t kill you silently like mold tends to do. Each year we engage in mortal combat with the little monsters until the weather shifts and they make for winter hunting grounds. We’ve used a few things over the years including outdoor perimeter spray and indoor ant baits. I have to say on a whole I’m not impressed with pest control options for the average home owner. Last year I did a heap of research and settled on Advion Ant Gel.

Reasonably priced and comes in a fun syringe for easy application. I was suitable impressed with it last year towards the end of “ant season”. As luck would have it I have the chance to test it out this year at the beginning of ant season. They are coming up the inside of the kitchen walll and out through an electrical socket this year, which is better than up from the floor behind the counter. I’ve laid down a few strips to hedge them up and keep them from free ranging our kitchen. It’s worked thus far. The ants love the gel and practically siphon it out of the syringe when I’m applying it. Now I just have to wait for everyone back at the colony to get a nice drop of gelatinous death.

UPDATE 05/17/17

No sign of the ants this evening. They’ve been diminishing in numbers as the days have gone on. I’ll check the next few days and then clean up the mess.

UPDATE 05/22/17

They never came back. I’m going to consider this a total and complete success. I’ve added an amazon link for those who would also like to deal out gelatinous death to our favorite little friends.

UPDATE 10/17/18

The ants have made two forays into our home since my last update. Each “incident” comprised about one weeks worth of gel, and total annihilation! Any time I question the gel I come away a believer. Remember the ants are taking it to the queen and the other’s in the nest and everyone gets a bite. It also last for years. I bought the twin pack and may end up passing it to my grandchildren.
